We believe everyone needs Jesus – not just Muslims. Frontiers was founded in 1982 when few agencies and churches were sending teams to Muslim people groups. It seemed right to focus our attention on Muslims because they had been so neglected – for most people, Muslims had never before seemed receptive to the Bible’s message.
Almost thirty years later, hundreds of thousands across the Muslim world are calling Jesus their Lord – by many estimates, there are now more Muslims trusting in Jesus’ saving power than there were during Islam’s 13 previous centuries – combined. We believe part of the reason for so much new birth may be that Christians worldwide, from many agencies, are now sharing Jesus’ words in Muslim countries, despite government restrictions. Frontiers strives to fulfill this calling with love for people and respect for their culture. Despite the change, hundreds of millions still have no one to tell them what Jesus accomplished on their behalf, so there is much to be done.
More than 200 Frontiers teams are spread across approximately 45 Muslim countries, as well as nations where there are large Muslim minorities and little witness. Frontiers does not send teams to Western countries because churches have the freedom to share Jesus with Muslims in their midst. We are currently looking for new teams to go and serve in places where the love of Jesus has not yet reached. Check out The Unengaged for more information.
Within some Muslim countries, there are individuals and groups that are hostile toward westerners. There is a risk involved in going, and Christ does call us to “count the cost”, but many countries do not have groups that pose a direct threat to workers’ lives. A bigger fear you can read about in the story of the most famous worker to ever serve in an Iraqi city and the deadly situations leading up to his decision — Jonah!
Frontiers requires no particular degree. If a church has prepared one of its families or singles to handle God’s Word accurately and commissions them, Frontiers will work to help them gather or join a team reaching Muslims. Frontiers believes that young and old individuals without prior experience overseas can establish communities of followers of Jesus in the Muslim world – provided they are eager for coaching. That said, governments in most Muslim countries demand that expatriates work or study while living within their borders, so it’s wise to either have marketable skills or be active at a university while you’re there. Contact us to learn where God could use your skills in the Muslim world.
There are many ways God can use you to bless the Muslim world.
- You can live in the Muslim world. If you have a relationship with the living God and are willing to give up Canadian church life, culture and ready access to extended family, then God may have a place for you to bless the Muslim world with the knowledge of Jesus. You don’t have to be an expert in Islam, another language, or support raising because we’ve seen how God abundantly supplies the needs of His servants – here and at the ends of the earth.
- You can partner financially with a Frontiers worker.
- You can provide critical prayer and logistical support.
- You can join the staff of a Frontiers sending office. Contact us!
Frontiers is an international movement with sending offices in over 20 different nations worldwide. In Canada, the main office is in Alberta, but we have additional representatives throughout the country. We can connect you to a representative near you.
We desire Muslims to enter into a saving relationship with the God who created them and sent messengers to tell them about His offer of peace through the gift of His Son. We want to introduce them to a Person (Jesus) with the power to change their hearts. We believe that we do not have the power of conversion, just as the Qur’an states (S. 2:256), but rather it is by the conviction of God’s Spirit to bring people to repentance in Jesus’ name.
